Evergreen Blogs vs Portfolio Blogs

What’s the Difference?

Evergreen Blogs vs Portfolio Blogs

When it comes to blogging for your wedding business, there are two main types of blog posts: evergreen blogs vs portfolio blogs. Both are important for marketing your wedding business and this blog will help you understand the ins and outs of each as well as how much of each type you should include in your wedding marketing strategy.

What is an Evergreen Wedding Blog Post?

Evergreen blog posts consist of content that is relevant year-round. They are often informational-based and educational, making great resources for your clients to refer to. These types of wedding blog posts don’t rely on trends or seasons meaning, whether someone reads your blog in February or in October, the information doesn’t change. Because of this, your evergreen blog posts will remain relevant for months or even years after their publish date.

While all evergreen wedding blog posts should be relevant, informational, or educational, there are a few different formats an evergreen blog post can take. Some common ones are:

  • Listicle Blogs – “an article written in list format” (ie – Top 10 Places to Elope in Oregon or 3 Wedding Floral Trends for 2024)
  • How-Tos / Tutorials – (ie – How to Plan a Post-Elopement Celebration)
  • Guides / Deep Dives into a particular topic – (it – The Ultimate Guide to Planning a North Cascades National Park Elopement)
  • Product Reviews – (ie – What’s In My Photography Bag)
  • FAQs – (ie – Wedding Planning FAQs)
  • Free Resources – (The Ultimate Wedding Planning Checklist)

What is a Portfolio Wedding Blog Post?

Portfolio blog posts are blogs that showcase a particular event or venue. Often these blogs will feature an engagement, elopement, or wedding day. Portfolio blogs are an excellent way to show off your best work and inspire clients while also giving them an idea of what working with you might look like.

*Pro Tip – when writing your portfolio blog post, don’t forget to include text! This is a common mistake that many wedding pros often make. A good portfolio blog post is so much more than just pretty photos. To learn more about wedding blog SEO tips, check out my guide below.

Evergreen Blogs vs Portfolio Blogs: How to Decide What Type of Content Your Blog Needs

Evergreen blog posts are a great way to build up your SEO. A good evergreen blog will provide value and answer any potential questions the reader may have (note – the Google gods love this!). The more your evergreen content matches what readers are looking for, the higher your page will rank. Customers usually come to your website looking for answers, so having well-thought-out, helpful resources that answer their questions before they even ask them will not only help you attract more clients but also position you as a subject matter expert in your field (a win-win).

Portfolio blog posts are also an essential piece to your marketing strategy. You want to answer potential client’s questions, but you also want to show them the work you are capable of producing and give them ideas and inspiration for what their wedding day can look like.

This is why it is so important to have a mix of both evergreen blogs and portfolio blogs on your website. But how much is the right amount? A general rule of thumb for wedding professionals is to have 80% of your blog be evergreen content and 20% be portfolio content. Having more evergreen wedding blogs will help your couples find you (if you’re following SEO best practices), and your portfolio blogs will help get them excited about planning their special day.

Having the right mix of evergreen blogs and portfolio blogs on your wedding website will help get your work in front of more people and attract even more dream clients.
