6 Pinterest Marketing Myths Debunked

When it comes to marketing your business on Pinterest, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there. As a Pinterest manager, it’s my job to keep up with the latest trends and best practices so I can share them with you. Keep reading to learn more about 6 common Pinterest marketing myths.

Pinterest is Just Another Social Media Platform

One of the biggest myths about Pinterest is that it is a social media platform. While there are many ways to be social on Pinterest (ie – followers, comments, likes, etc.) Pinterest is actually a visual search engine like Google!

People go to Pinterest to look for ideas and inspiration. If they type in the term “wedding flowers” a bunch of results will pop up. That’s exactly what a search engine is meant to do. Your goal as a business owner is to make sure that your content shows up. The best way to do this is by optimizing your pins, including keywords, and following Pinterest’s best practices.

When the right strategies are implemented, Pinterest becomes a powerful tool for driving traffic to your website, increasing engagement on your account, and generating leads for your business. If you’re not familiar with Pinterest SEO or don’t think you can keep up with the ever-changing strategies, then you may want to consider hiring a Pinterest manager to manage your account. Luckily, I know just the person who can help! 🙂 Click the link below to learn more and get started!

Pinterest is All About Pinning Other People’s Content

Wrong! You can and should pin your own content to your Pinterest for Business account.

Many people are only familiar with the personal side of Pinterest but there is a whole other side that is used for business. Pinterest is a powerful marketing tool, especially for wedding professionals. You just need to know what kind of content to put out there and how to optimize it correctly for the best results!

If you’re just getting started using Pinterest for Business it’s ok to pin other people’s content for a few months, but as your account starts to grow, you want to start pinning your own fresh content.

Creating Content on Pinterest is Time Consuming

While setting up your Pinterest account does take some time on the front end, once done properly, you will be able to start publishing pins in no time!

The key to being successful on Pinterest is consistency. It’s all about the long game. For best results, you want to make sure you are pinning at least 1 pin per day and while it will take time to build up your audience, you will eventually start to see results. Pinning every day can sound like a lot of work, but there are a few tips to help streamline your process, cutting down on the amount of time you need to spend on the account each week.

Create Templates in Canva

One of my favorite tools to help create quality-looking pins for Pinterest is Canva. Canva is a completely free tool that allows you to create graphics and designs that are perfect for Pinterest!

When using Canva, I like to create templates for my pins. This way all the pins have a cohesive, branded look. You can create a variety of templates to help showcase your photos in unique, interesting ways. With Canva’s templates, it’s as easy as drag-and-drop and you’re done!

Batch Content

Just because you’re pinning daily on Pinterest doesn’t mean that you have to be on the platform every day. One of the best ways to streamline your work on Pinterest is by batching your work.

If you want to start small, start by creating one or two weeks’ worth of pins at a time. Pinterest will allow you to schedule up to two weeks in advance so you can publish your pins and not go back to the account for a few weeks.

If you have time, I suggest creating a whole month’s worth of pins at a time and then going in once a week or every other week to schedule them. This way, you’re only working on the account 1 or 2 times a month rather than every day or every week.

You Need to Pin 10+ Pins a Day to be Successful

This is another Pinterest marketing myth that simply isn’t true. Pinterest values quality over quantity, so if you have time to publish 10+ (quality) pins a day, then, by all means, go for it! If your time is limited though, it’s better to create 1-3 quality pins a day than a whole bunch of pins that aren’t optimized correctly. Your main goal on Pinterest should be to publish consistent and high-quality content. That is going to give you much better results than publishing a bunch of pins only to stop when life gets busy.

Delete Underperforming Pins

This is a big Pinterest marketing myth. Just because your pin isn’t generating any traffic or engagement today doesn’t mean that it never will. Pins have a much longer life cycle than posts on platforms like Instagram or Facebook. Instead of just getting a bunch of engagement within the first 24 hours, pins can continue getting traffic and engagement for months or even years after they’ve been published!

Even if your pins seem like they’re underperforming, it’s best practice to keep them on your account as they may start to gain traction in the future. Pin engagement often fluctuates based on the season or what’s currently trending.

Follower Count is the Most Important Metric

While follower count can help ensure your pins reach more people, it’s not the most important measurement of success. Having more engaged followers is much more important than simply having a high number of followers. To be successful on Pinterest, you need to understand your goals and create a strategy that will help you reach those goals.
