Why You Need a Get to Know Me Post on Your Blog

You’ve blogged your favorite elopement, highlighted that incredible wedding venue, and even have a solid library filled with planning tips to boost your SEO, but do you have a get to know me post? I’m willing to bet that’s probablyyy one blog post you haven’t written yet.

Welcome to week one of our new blog series – The 5 Types of Blog Posts That Every Photographer Needs. I was originally going to make this a single blog post, but I’m all about making blogging something fun, so when the idea to break this down into individual easy-to-digest posts came to me, I was all for it!

For the next 5 weeks, I’ll be sharing a new blog topic that every wedding and elopement photographer should have on their website. And to kick things off, we’re starting with the blog post that gets overlooked the most (but has the potential for the biggest payoff).

The Blog Post Every Wedding Photographer Forgets (and Why It’s Often Overlooked)

You’ve got the evergreen (resource) blogs, the portfolio blogs, and even the wedding venue spotlights, but do you have an About Me blog post?

Not an About Page. A real blog post. One that tells your story, shares your why, and invites potential couples into the heart of your business.

Most wedding photographers forget to write about themselves, and to be fair, I get it. It can feel super vulnerable to write about yourself.

You may be thinking things like, “My blog post is not the place to talk about myself,” or “A get to know me post is not an SEO blog in the traditional sense, so where’s the value? Wouldn’t my blog posts be better aimed at targeting real questions or highly searched keywords?”.

And yes, while having strong, SEO-focused blog posts on your site is incredibly important, there are some things that a story-driven blog post does better than other blog posts or an About Page (and hint – a lot of it has to do with building connection).

4 Reasons a Get to Know Me Blog Post Matters

1. People Actually Read “About” Content (A Lot)

Did you know that About Pages are one of the most-clicked pages on service-based websites? Take a look at your analytics and you’ll probably see it listed in the top 10.

Especially as wedding photographers, you are quite literally working with couples on one of the most intimate, important days of their relationship. So, of course, they’re going to scour your site and social media as much as they can before inquiring.

By turning your story into a blog post, you give potential clients the space to get to know you on an even deeper level. A get to know me blog post gives you the space to share your journey and values and the heart behind your business in a way that resonates.

2. It Fills Gaps Your About Page Can’t

I’ve seen some really incredible About Pages. Pages that truly engage the reader and make you feel connected to the person on the other side. Having a strong About Page is very important because it’s one of the first places people go to learn about you.

But About Pages are often limited to certain information. A good About Page needs to tell enough of your story, while still keeping the focus on the potential client and what’s in it for them.

A blog post, on the other hand, (especially one that is all about your story) allows for more freedom. It fills in gaps that your About Page simply can’t. It lets you go into detail about a specific story or share behind-the-scenes context without having a character limit.

3. Connection Leads to Conversion

According to a recent Edelman Trust Barometer study, 81% of consumers said they needed to trust a brand before buying from it. And in industries like weddings, where the decision is deeply emotional, this is especially true.

Trust is largely built through communication, transparency, and empathy – all things that a get to know me post can deliver.

Most clients want to connect with the person behind the lens – especially when that person is responsible for documenting some of their day’s most important moments. A well-crafted, story-driven blog post offers potential couples a glimpse into who you are. It helps them understand your values, your personality, and why you do what you do. It makes you feel familiar, relatable, and real – all things that help people feel connected to each other. That emotional resonance then leads to trust – one of the most powerful factors in booking decisions.

When connection is present, conversion naturally follows. Warm leads who feel aligned are more likely to inquire, engage, and say yes to working with you.

4. It Creates Space for Harder-to-Target Keywords

While a story-driven blog post might not be a high-volume keyword target, it creates space for keywords and terms that are sometimes tricky to include elsewhere. Think phrases like:

  • “Get to know your photographer”
  • “Why I became a [Location] wedding photographer”
  • “[Location] elopement photographer”

Because this blog post centers around your journey and role as a photographer, it gives you an opportunity to naturally sprinkle in location-based keywords that typically live on landing pages. It’s also an easy way to attract new traffic through personal storytelling and highlight the unique qualities that potential clients might be searching for, especially via voice search.

And, of course, a blog like this is the perfect place to add internal links to related posts or your services page, which helps keep visitors on your site longer. And more time on page + strong internal linking = healther SEO overall.

What a Get to Know Your Photographer Blog Post Might Look Like

Here are a few topic ideas for your get to know me post:

  • “Why I Became a Wedding Photographer (and What Still Lights Me Up)”
  • “What I Wish Every Couple Knew Before Eloping”
  • “The Wedding That Changed the Way I Photograph”
  • “What Working With Me Actually Feels Like”

Quick Tips for Writing Your Get To Know Me Post:

  • Talk like you would to a friend. Your writing doesn’t need to be perfect and polished.
  • Tell a specific story. It doesn’t have to be your full bio – maybe just a moment that mattered.
  • Add 2–3 photos to visually enhance your blog and make it feel more personal. These could be some behind-the-scenes moments from a wedding or styled shoot, personal images, or a moment that reflects your heart.
  • End with a soft call to action like – “If you’re dreaming up a wedding day that’s totally your own, I’d love to be part of it.”

TLDR: Don’t Skip a Get to Know Me Post

A get to know your photographer blog post helps build “know, like, and trust” with potential clients – a factor that every inquiry needs before turning into a successful booking. A get to know me post might not feel very strategic at first glance, but it’s one of the most powerful tools you can include in your blogging strategy.
